The construction division of Samsung C&T is set to launch infrastructure projects in Qatar Free Zones.
Samsung C&T President and CEO Oh Se-chul and Qatar Free Zone Authority CEO Sheikh Mohammed Al-Thani have announced plans to initiate infrastructure projects within Qatar Free Zones.
Samsung C&T’s construction division has signed a business agreement with the Qatar Free Zone Authority (QFZ) in Doha to collaborate on joint investment and technological cooperation in sustainable infrastructure development.
QFZ is a government agency launched in 2018 to secure future engines of growth and improve the country’s economic structure under Qatar National Vision 2030, the nation’s mid- to long-term development plan. Three special economic zones are being developed centered around Hamad International Airport and the nearby port area, and infrastructure across all industries including logistics, manufacturing and technology is also under construction.
Samsung C&T and QFZ agreed to cooperate in sustainable infrastructure projects including solar power generation and data centers to be built within the zones and seek concrete plans for implementation.
Samsung C&T President and CEO Oh Se-chul said, “We will actively take on projects that can contribute to Qatar achieving its national vision including those of ecofriendly energy and digital infrastructure.”
In addition, the company has several plant ventures in Qatar including a massive 875-megawatt solar power facility, liquefied natural gas terminal, and desalination and combined cycle power project.
