Alghanim International has announced that it has secured the contract to convert the second phase of the Subbiya Gas Turbines into a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Power Plant (CCGT-2).
Valued at 87.2 million dinars ($284.3 million), the project was awarded by the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy.
The upgrade is expected to boost Subbiya Power Station’s generation capacity by roughly 250 MW, strengthening Kuwait’s electricity network and supporting the nation’s rising energy needs, according to news reports.
Alghanim International noted that this award marks a key milestone, underscoring the company’s commitment to advancing Kuwait’s energy landscape and delivering projects that create meaningful community benefits.
The project further expands the company’s regional energy footprint, following the recent completion of the Duqm Integrated Power and Water Project in Oman—a 325 MW natural gas-fired combined cycle plant paired with a 1,500 m³/hr seawater reverse osmosis desalination facility and related auxiliary systems.
