China Petroleum Engineering Corporation (CPEC) has announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering, has received a letter of award from France’s TotalEnergies for a major gas infrastructure development in Iraq.

The project, known as the Artawi (Ratawi) GMP EPSCC Project, aims to establish midstream gas pipeline facilities connecting the Majnoon and West Qurna 2 oilfields to a new gas processing plant in Artawi. The scope of work includes:

  • A 114-kilometre, 26-inch sour gas pipeline

  • An 83-kilometre, 20-inch sour gas pipeline

  • Three additional export pipelines

  • Associated valve stations and supporting infrastructure

The total value of the contract is estimated at approximately $294 million (around 385 billion Iraqi dinars), with an expected execution period of 36 months.

CPEC stated that, upon finalisation and successful implementation, the project is anticipated to positively impact the company’s revenue and profitability over the next three to four years. It will also further solidify its market presence in Iraq and the broader Middle East’s oil and gas pipeline engineering sector.

Currently, the project remains in the pre-contract award phase. Final contract terms are still under negotiation, and the company has cautioned that potential risks—such as political or social instability, market volatility, or the client’s financing arrangements—could affect the eventual signing and execution of the contract.
