Fluor Corporation has secured a multi-year contract from Centrus Energy’s subsidiary, American Centrifuge Operating, LLC, to serve as the integrated engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) partner for the expansion of its low-enriched uranium (LEU) and high-assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU) facility in Piketon, Ohio.
The award is part of a multi-billion-dollar public and private investment plan to install thousands of additional centrifuges at the American Centrifuge Plant. Fluor will lead the engineering and design for the expanded capacity, manage procurement and supply chain activities, oversee site construction, and support commissioning of the new facilities.
Al Collins, Business Group President, Mission Solutions at Fluor, said the project reinforces the company’s role in supporting the re-establishment of domestic uranium enrichment capabilities in the United States and strengthens the nation’s nuclear fuel supply chain.
Centrus President and CEO Amir Vexler described the contract as a significant milestone in the company’s expansion strategy, noting that centrifuge manufacturing is already underway as the project moves into large-scale deployment.
The expansion will position Centrus as a key supplier of LEU for existing nuclear reactors while increasing HALEU production to support advanced reactors in the coming years. The Piketon plant is one of two licensed LEU production facilities in the United States and the only licensed HALEU production facility in the Western world.
The project is expected to create more than 1,300 jobs in Ohio during construction and operations, contributing to regional economic growth and strengthening national energy security.
