Fluor Corporation announced that its joint venture (JV) with JGC Corporation has secured the contract to update the Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) for the proposed Phase 2 expansion of the LNG Canada facility. This facility is situated on the traditional territory of the Haisla Nation in Kitimat, British Columbia, Canada. Fluor will recognize the contract’s value, which remains undisclosed, in its second-quarter 2025 financial results.
This new award follows the successful completion of Phase 1, marked recently by the shipment of LNG Canada’s inaugural liquefied natural gas (LNG) export cargo. Since 2018, the JGC Fluor JV has played a vital role in delivering Phase 1 by providing essential engineering, procurement, fabrication management, construction, and commissioning services—ensuring the safe startup of the facility.
Strategically located on Canada’s west coast, the LNG Canada facility benefits from abundant, low-cost natural gas supplies and an ice-free port. It is the first facility of its kind in Canada, with a production capacity of up to 14 million tonnes of LNG annually. This project positions Canada as a key supplier of low-carbon natural gas to international markets and operates under a 40-year license designed to help reduce global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by replacing coal with cleaner natural gas. The proposed Phase 2 expansion aims to boost the facility’s processing, storage, and shipping capacity. While LNG Canada and its five joint venture partners continue to evaluate options for Phase 2, a final investment decision has yet to be made.
“We have been proud partners throughout Phase 1 and are eager to contribute to the next phase of this world-class project,” said Mike Alexander, Fluor’s Business Group President of Energy Solutions. “We applaud the LNG Canada team for its vision and dedication to advancing the energy transition by supplying natural gas, a lower-carbon alternative, to markets worldwide.”
LNG Canada is a joint venture comprised of Shell, Petronas, PetroChina, Mitsubishi Corporation, and KOGAS.
