Saipem has secured two new contracts from Dangote Fertilizer, Africa’s leading fertilizer producer, covering technology licensing and technical expertise for six new urea units—four in Nigeria and two in Ethiopia—as well as basic engineering and design services for the associated plants.

The scope includes licensing of Saipem’s proprietary Snamprogetti™ Urea technology, along with process engineering documentation required for constructing the new urea units. Each unit will have a record capacity of 4,235 metric tons per day (MTPD), the highest ever achieved globally.

These facilities form part of a broader industrial development plan to build six integrated Ammonia/Urea complexes across Nigeria and Ethiopia, with a combined urea production capacity exceeding 25,000 MTPD.

In addition, Saipem and Dangote Fertilizer have signed a Letter of Intent for Saipem to execute Front End Engineering Design (FEED) services for the new Ethiopian complex. Developed in partnership with Ethiopian Investment Holdings, the project envisions a plant in Gode, Somali Region, with an annual output of 3 million tons of urea.

With these new awards, Saipem further consolidates its leadership in the global fertilizer industry, strengthens its footprint in Africa, and continues to deliver high-efficiency, low-emission technological solutions. Snamprogetti™ Urea technology has now been adopted in more than 140 operating units worldwide, demonstrating its globally recognized expertise.
