Saipem has announced that Aker BP has exercised an additional option to extend the contract for the semi-submersible drilling unit Scarabeo 8, allowing the rig to remain in operation for a further year.
This marks the third extension of the contract originally awarded in March 2022, following the previously announced extensions covering 2026 and 2027, and underlines the continued offshore drilling activity on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
The one-year extension, valued at USD 157 million and covering the rig day rate excluding fuel and other ancillary services, remains subject to approval by Aker BP’s Board of Directors, scheduled for January 2026. The agreement also includes a provision for potential future extensions, reinforcing the long-term partnership between Saipem and Aker BP and their shared focus on safe, sustainable, and high-standard operations.
Scarabeo 8, a sixth-generation semi-submersible designed for harsh-environment operations, will continue to deliver strong performance while meeting the stringent safety and operational requirements of the Norwegian Continental Shelf.
