Saipem has announced that Aker BP has exercised its option to extend the existing contract for the semi-submersible drilling rig Scarabeo 8. The extension, following a previous one-year renewal, will keep the rig in operation through to the end of 2027.
Scarabeo 8 will continue working offshore Norway for Aker BP, supporting ongoing exploration and production activities.
The rig, owned by Saipem, is a sixth-generation semi-submersible unit built for operations in harsh offshore conditions. It features a dynamic positioning system and advanced mooring capabilities, fully compliant with stringent industry regulations. With a strong performance history across the Norwegian Continental Shelf, including the Barents Sea, Scarabeo 8 has consistently delivered results for major oil operators.
This contract extension highlights the continued strength of the partnership between Saipem and Aker BP, reinforcing their shared commitment to safe, efficient, and high-quality offshore operations.
