Samsung E&A has announced it has received the Letter of Award (LOA) from INPEX Masela Ltd., a subsidiary of Japan’s largest energy company, INPEX for the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) of the ‘Indonesia INPEX Abadi Onshore LNG Project.’ The contract win, achieved in partnership with PT KBR Indonesia and PT Adhi Karya, marks a significant milestone in Samsung E&A’s ongoing expansion into the global LNG market.

Located in the Saumlaki region of Indonesia’s Maluku Province, the project will process natural gas from the Abadi field to produce approximately 9.5 million tons of LNG annually and 35,000 barrels of condensate per day. Recognized as a national strategic initiative, the project will also feature a carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility to capture CO₂ emissions and store them in a nearby offshore reservoir. This award provides Samsung E&A with a strategic opportunity to strengthen its foothold in the promising CCS market while advancing its LNG portfolio, both of which are key to supporting global decarbonization and energy transition goals.

LNG, known for emitting less carbon than traditional fuels and producing fewer pollutants due to its refining process, continues to gain traction as a transitional energy source—especially as electricity demand rises in the age of AI. Meanwhile, CCS technology, which captures carbon emissions from energy processes and stores them in depleted oil and gas fields, is seen as a vital pathway toward achieving net-zero emissions targets.

Samsung E&A intends to leverage its proven track record in Indonesia—having successfully executed 20 projects to date—alongside its proprietary execution strategy, AHEAD (Execution Innovation), which emphasizes modularization and automation to optimize project delivery. Given the project’s remote location, these technologies are expected to reduce on-site construction demands and enhance quality. By combining Samsung E&A’s engineering strength with KBR’s global LNG expertise and local collaboration with state-owned Adhi Karya, the consortium aims to deliver a high-performance project with robust local integration.

Hong Namkoong, President and CEO of Samsung E&A, stated: “We are confident that the successful execution of this FEED contract will pave the way for securing the EPC order. This project reinforces our leadership in Asia—one of our strategic core markets—and further expands our participation in technologically advanced LNG and CCS ventures.”
