SONATRACH and SINOPEC Guangzhou Engineering Co., Ltd. have signed a contract for the construction of a new hydrotreating and CCR reforming unit to process heavy naphtha at the Arzew refinery.
The signing ceremony was held at SONATRACH’s headquarters in the presence of the State Minister and Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mr. Mohamed ARKAB, SONATRACH’s CEO Mr. Nour Eddine DAOUDI, and senior representatives from both companies.
Under the EPCC agreement, SINOPEC Guangzhou Engineering Co., Ltd. will build the unit on a 5-hectare site at the Arzew refinery, with completion expected within 30 months.
Designed to process 738,000 tons of heavy naphtha annually, the new hydrotreating and reforming unit will boost gasoline output from 550,000 tons to 1.2 million tons per year, significantly enhancing national production capacity.
SINOPEC Guangzhou Engineering Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the SINOPEC Group, specializes in designing and constructing oil and gas processing units and provides comprehensive engineering, procurement, and construction services.
This project aligns with SONATRACH’s strategic plan to expand refining capacity and will help meet gasoline demand across Algeria’s western and southwestern regions.
