Technip Energies has been awarded two Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) contracts by Société Gabonaise de Raffinage (SOGARA) for its refinery in Port-Gentil, Gabon. The FEED scope covers both the revamp and expansion of the existing refinery.
The first contract focuses on the FEED for debottlenecking SOGARA’s existing refinery, targeting key process units. It includes the addition of a new kerosene sweetening unit along with four new storage facilities, with full process integration across both existing and new units.
The second contract involves the FEED for a new modular Hydrocracker Complex aimed at significantly increasing SOGARA’s refining capacity. The scope also includes a new marine jetty and offloading facility. Technip Energies will apply its engineering expertise and technology integration capabilities, including its proprietary Steam Methane Reforming (SMR) technology for hydrogen production.
Both projects are aligned with Africa 5 fuel quality standards, the continent’s most stringent specifications for sulfur content in transportation fuels, supporting reduced emissions and improved air quality. In addition, the developments are expected to contribute to Gabon’s economic growth and local employment.
Loïc Chapuis, President Project Delivery & Services at Technip Energies, commented that the awards highlight the company’s strength in both brownfield optimization and complex greenfield developments, while reinforcing its commitment to modernizing refining infrastructure across Africa and delivering long-term value for clients and local communities.
