Thyssenkrupp Uhde Fertilizer Technology (UFT) has signed agreements with Dangote Fertiliser Limited (DFL) to deliver its UFT® Fluid Bed Granulation Technology for four new urea granulation trains across four upcoming fertilizer complexes. The scope includes the technology license, process design package (PDP), and UFT’s proprietary equipment such as granulators and scrubbers.
Each of the four new trains will have a nameplate capacity of 4,235 mtpd, boosting DFL’s annual urea granule production from approximately 2.65 million tons to more than eight million tons. These new units will be situated in Lekki, Nigeria, next to the two existing fertilizer complexes—also based on UFT® Fluid Bed Granulation Technology—with capacities of 3,850 mtpd each and in operation since 2021.
The new plants will incorporate UFT®’s energy-efficient, low-pressure-drop scrubbing system with dust and ammonia scrubbing stages to meet stringent emission standards. The design also integrates the licensed Ammonia Convert Technology (ACT), which eliminates side-stream waste from the ammonia scrubbing stage by incorporating ammonium sulphate bleed directly into the urea granules—providing both commercial and logistical advantages for DFL.

UFT® Fluid Bed Granulation remains one of the world’s leading technologies for urea granule production, accounting for more than 70% of global output. Emissions remain far below legal thresholds for urea dust and ammonia. The technology is deployed in over 70 plants worldwide, including more than 20 high-capacity units exceeding 3,000 mtpd, forming a key part of thyssenkrupp Uhde’s fertilizer solutions portfolio.
