Wison New Energies has officially signed an EPCIC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation, and Commissioning) contract with Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) for the Floating Production Unit (FPU) in Phase 3 of the Sakarya Gas Field. This agreement marks a key milestone in the field’s development and will further strengthen Türkiye’s natural gas production capacity while supporting the country’s transition toward a more optimized energy mix.
Discovered in August 2020, the Sakarya Gas Field is Türkiye’s largest-ever natural gas discovery, with proven reserves of 405 billion cubic meters (BCM). Located about 170 kilometers offshore in the Black Sea at a depth of 2,150 meters, the field is being developed in three phases by TPAO. At the heart of Phase 3, the FPU is designed to withstand the challenging deepwater conditions of the Black Sea and comply with the Bosphorus Strait’s 56-meter air draft restriction. The facility is engineered with a gas export capacity of 25 million SCMD (883 MMSCFD), produced water treatment of 1,350 sm³/d, MEG regeneration and injection capacity of 2,503 m³/d for hydrate inhibition, and a minimum design life of 30 years.
As a flagship project in Türkiye’s national energy strategy, the Sakarya Gas Field Phase 3 development will play a crucial role in enhancing energy self-sufficiency, reducing dependence on gas imports, and expanding domestic supply. The project is expected to significantly contribute to the country’s long-term energy security and reinforce its role in the regional energy market.
Mr. Liu Hongjun, Chairman of Wison New Energies, said: “This collaboration represents a major milestone in Wison’s internationalization strategy and a significant advancement in our deepwater engineering capabilities. We are committed to supporting the Sakarya Gas Field development with innovative floating solutions and efficient resource integration, helping drive the growth of Türkiye’s energy sector.”
Mr. Ahmet Türkoğlu, CEO of TPAO, added: “We are pleased to partner with Wison New Energies on the Sakarya Phase 3 project. Wison’s proven expertise in floating facilities is well aligned with our project needs. We look forward to working closely together to ensure the successful and timely delivery of this critical development.”
As a leading clean energy technology provider, Wison New Energies will leverage its deep offshore engineering experience to ensure high-quality execution of the project. This partnership not only accelerates the Sakarya development but also strengthens the long-term strategic cooperation between Wison and TPAO, opening new avenues for mutual growth and value creation.
