Wood has secured a new contract to provide project management and engineering services for PetroChina at the West Qurna 1 oilfield in southern Iraq; one of the world’s largest, reinforcing the company’s decade-long presence at the site.
Under this agreement, Wood will oversee engineering, procurement, and construction activities. Located about 50 kilometers northwest of Basra, West Qurna 1 contains over 20 billion barrels of recoverable reserves and remains a vital asset in Iraq’s energy infrastructure.
Ellis Renforth, President of Operations for Europe, Middle East and Africa, stated:
“The West Qurna 1 field is central to the nation’s energy security and plays a pivotal role in strengthening its economic resilience. This new award further deepens our long-standing partnership at West Qurna 1 and reflects the continued confidence in Wood’s ability to deliver complex energy solutions in Iraq.
“We are proud to bring together our global capabilities with a strong local workforce to help advance Iraq’s energy goals.”
The contract will be executed by nearly 200 Wood employees based in Iraq and the United Arab Emirates.
