CTCI Thailand, a subsidiary of the CTCI Group with extensive experience in petrochemical and LNG terminal projects, has announced the award of EPC contracts valued at THB 1.8 billion for the Olefins 3 Cold Energy Utilization Project (OCP). This project is a collaboration between PTT Global Chemical (PTTGC) and PE LNG, two of Thailand’s leading companies committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
A new cold energy utilization facility will be developed in Nongfab, Rayong, integrating PTTGC’s olefins plant with PE LNG’s liquefied natural gas (LNG) regasification terminal. This initiative represents a key milestone in Thailand’s energy transition and reinforces CTCI Group’s commitment to expanding its global presence while advancing low carbon solutions in partnership with industry leaders.
The project incorporates a closed loop mixed refrigerant system that connects both facilities, enabling the recovery and transfer of cold energy released during LNG regasification at the PE LNG terminal for use in olefins cooling at the PTTGC plant. The system then circulates heat energy back to the LNG terminal to support the regasification process.
By replacing electricity as the primary energy source for olefins cooling, this innovative solution is expected to reduce approximately 60,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually. The project is targeted for completion in 2028.
Under the scope of work, CTCI Thailand will deliver the EPC package for the LNG and mixed refrigerant facility, including critical equipment such as heat exchangers, surge drums, vent condensers, and variable speed drive pumps, along with the closed loop refrigerant pipelines and all associated utility systems.
Commenting on the award, Managing Director Thanakorn Malarat stated, “The OCP is a strategic initiative that strengthens CTCI Thailand’s position in ESG focused projects and establishes us as a leading local contractor in this emerging segment. We are committed to executing the project safely, on schedule, and to the highest quality standards, while further enhancing our expertise in cold energy utilization, an area with strong growth potential in Thailand.”
