QatarEnergy awards Técnicas Reunidas additional EPC off-plot facilities work for NFS Project worth $560 million

QatarEnergy has awarded Técnicas Reunidas additional Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) work including the pipelines, interconnections, ancillary systems, and other supporting components for the LNG Offplot facilities for the North Field South Project.

This award reinforces the relationship between QatarEnergy and Técnicas Reunidas which is currently executing the EPC works for the expansion of the Condensate, LPG, and MEG storage, distribution, and associated facilities for the North Field Expansion Project. Tecnicas Reunidas is also executing the EPC works for the Sulfur Handling Facility for the North Field Expansion Project in a Joint Venture with Wison Engineering Ltd.

The new scope includes the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of a range of off–plot facilities. These include the LNG rundown lines, boil–off gas (BOG) recovery and utility pipelines that will connect the southern part of Ras Laffan Industrial City to new storage tanks and export facilities in RLIC.

The scope of the project also includes the commissioning of LNG Tanks, an LNG loading berth, BOG compressors, and associated equipment.

Total contract value is around 560 million USD.

The North Field, located north–east of the Qatar peninsula, is the largest non–associated natural gas field in the world. It makes Qatar the country with the third largest proven reserves in the world, estimated at 10% of the world’s known natural gas reserves.

This award cements Técnicas Reunidas’ relationship with QatarEnergy as Tecnicas Reunidas has been working on large–scale projects related to the expansion of the North Field since 2021.

Technip Energies Awarded a Major LNG contract for the North Field South Project by QatarEnergy

Technip Energies has announced that a joint venture (T.ENCCC JV), led by Technip Energies (T.EN) in partnership with Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC), has won a major Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning (EPCC) contract by QatarEnergy for the onshore facilities of the North Field South Project (NFS).

This award will cover the delivery of 2 mega trains, each with a capacity of 8 million tons per annum (Mtpa) of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). It will include a large CO2 carbon capture and sequestration facility of 1.5 Mtpa, leading to a 25% plus reduction of greenhouse gas emissions when compared to similar LNG facilities.

The expansion project will produce approximately 16 Mtpa of additional LNG, increasing Qatar’s total production from 110 to 126 Mtpa.

Arnaud Pieton, CEO of Technip Energies, commented: “We are extremely honored to have been awarded by QatarEnergy this mega LNG project, along with our long-standing partner CCC, a leading construction company for LNG trains. This award is a testament to the trust, extent, and strength of our relationship with QatarEnergy. This new project also reflects our leadership in the LNG market as well as our proven ability to integrate technologies towards low carbon LNG, critical in solving the trilemma for affordable, available, and sustainable energy.”

QatarEnergy signs deal with TotalEnergies for North Field South Expansion

QatarEnergy announced that it has selected TotalEnergies as the first international partner in the North Field South (NFS) expansion project. The NFS project, which comprises 2 LNG mega trains with a combined capacity of 16 million tons per annum (MTPA), will raise Qatar’s total LNG export capacity to 126 MTPA.

The partnership agreement was signed by His Excellency Mr. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs, President and CEO of QatarEnergy, and Mr. Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman of the Board and CEO of TotalEnergies, during a ceremony held today at QatarEnergy’s headquarters in Doha and attended by senior executives from both companies.

Pursuant to the agreement, TotalEnergies will have an effective net participating interest of 9.375% in the NFS project (out of a total 25% interest available for international partners) while QatarEnergy will hold a 75% interest. In his remarks during the ceremony, H. E. Minister Al-Kaabi said: “QatarEnergy is moving forward, to help meet growing global demand for cleaner energy, of which LNG is the backbone for a serious and realistic energy transition. We are committing significant investments to lower the carbon intensity of our energy products, which constitutes a key pillar of QatarEnergy’s sustainability and energy transition strategy.”

“We will continue our efforts to power lives in every corner of the world for a better tomorrow for all,” His Excellency added.H.E. Minister Al-Kaabi welcomed TotalEnergies to this new project and said “I am pleased to welcome TotalEnergies yet again as a partner in our flagship LNG projects.”

In concluding his remarks, H.E. Minister Al-Kaabi said: “I would like to thank the working teams at QatarEnergy and TotalEnergies for their excellent cooperation that led to this agreement. I also would like to thank the Qatargas leadership and project teams for their efforts in implementing the North Field expansion projects on schedule, and with an outstanding safety record. Most importantly, we are forever grateful to the wise leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and for His unlimited support of Qatar’s energy sector.”

The North Field Expansion Project, comprising NFS and the North Field East (NFE) expansion projects, is the industry’s largest ever LNG project. It will start production in 2026 and will add more than 48 MTPA to the world’s LNG supplies. Five partnership agreements have been signed in June and July this year covering the NFE project, which comprises 4 mega LNG trains with a combined capacity of 32 MTPA.

This unique project is characterized by the highest health, safety, and environmental standards, including carbon capture and sequestration, to reduce the project’s overall carbon footprint to the lowest levels possible. Other partners in the NFS project will be announced in due course.
